Traditional Mexican, good service and price. The Chili Relano is good. **Update** I changed my review to a *** simply because they are now trying to nickel and dime you. Like EVERY other Mexican restaurants you get free chips and salsa, they will still bring out 1 serving for 2 people to share, they now charge you if you want more salsa, that is just plain cheap. Does not sit well with me. What's next no free refills?

Best Mexican food in town, very good eats. We go on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. Cheap margaritas as well!

Holy smokes, you get A LOT of food here!!! I had a pina colada, which was $5 and came with whipped cream and sprinkles - yes sprinkles! I ordered a combination plate for lunch... I had chile rellano, chicken enchilada, chicken tamale, chicken tostada, and beans. I was super hungry and took at least half of my meal home. The stand-out items were the chile rellano (which was very cheesy and vegetarian) and the tostada. The enchilada was really good too. The tamale was my least favorite - it was quite bland and nothing special. The thing with the combination plates is that you can only order 1 of each item listed, and rice and beans counts for 2 items if rice and beans is your thing... However, it was reasonably priced ($8ish for the 5 item combination). The first basket of chips and salsa is complimentary, but we asked for more as there were 6 people in our group and were charged an additional $2.95... not something I see very often especially with a larger group. The waiter was very nice and had a few tables that he was waiting on during our visit. He definitely did his best to keep up - especially with all the food my family ordered! I couldn't believe how he brought out the hot plates of food that he not only head but had on his arms up to his shoulders. That takes talent and amazing balance! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area and hungry for Mexican food.

Four of us went on a Friday for dinner and all our food was well prepared and hot when it hit the table. None of us were disappointed.

It isn't the worst Mexican food I've eaten, but it isn't the best either. The service is always friendly and fast and the restaurant is clean. This place blows the locals away because it's the best in the area. Nothing really bad to say about the place other than it's nothing special and the drinks are expensive

Yelp usually doesn't let me down. So when I was in the area and in a pinch to find something to eat I thought I couldn't go wrong with this little place. I must have stopped by on an off day. The service was slow, but the server was kind enough when he was around. I'm not docking points for service or ambiance. I try not to comment on the service if I've only stopped in once, as I've been to plenty of places that sometimes just have that off day. My complaint is focused where it should be--the food. I ordered enchiladas and they were bland, all while drowning in bland sauce. I love me some beans, but the ones that came with my order tasted more like water and less like beans. The only true saving grace was the amount of food. There are definitely big servings here. It will take a lot of convincing to get me to dine here again. With all of the other positive reviews and the relatively inexpensive dishes, you might have better luck than I did. If you choose to stop by and end up disappointed like I did, at least you can say you got ample servings at a low price.

Like moths to a flame , better yet lemmings to a cliff. There is much better mexican in the area . Lots of canned ingredients here. Not worth 10 $ a plate.

I've been here several times and the food has always been very consistent. It's nothing special, your basic "Americanized" Mexican fare, but it's satisfying and very reasonably priced. The service has always been very friendly and quick. It won't blow you away, but I've never been disappointed.

Today I stopped in to La Tapatia for a quick lunch. I called ahead to find out what the "all you can eat" option was for the day. Gleefully, it was all you can eat enchiladas. I was seated right away and ordered a Pepsi and was given chips and salsa. The chips were still warm a delightfully crispy. The salsa was fresh and had good flavor. It usually doesn't have enough heat for me so I just mix in a little hot sauce. I also ordered some guacamole, which was good but nothing special. In a very short amount of time, I got my beef enchiladas. If you don't like a ton of lettuce, I would order then with no lettuce (you get more cheese that way too!). The plate was piping hot and held 4 beautifully smothered beef enchiladas. I forgot to ask for no lettuce, so it looked like there was a salad on top of it. When the waiter stopped by and asked if I wanted more he saw my lettuce piled up on the side and asked if I wanted my next ones without lettuce. The enchiladas were well prepared, however the meat filling could have used a little bit more flavor. Also, it would have been nice to have some other toppings for them like sour cream or green onions. I am thinking that because I ordered the all you can eat, I didn't get the extras. All in all though, good food at a good price.

Expectations were exceeded. Yep- it was very very good Mexican food in where-the-heck-are-we Wisconsin. And I am comparing these to west coast tacos. Delicious steak tacos- fresh cilantro on top. Dr. B had the pork ones and was happy too. Some homemade hot salsas and bottled ones too. Hot chips. Cold beer. Fast and friendly service and - bonus- clean bathroom!!!

In my opinion the best place to go in beaver dam for Mexican food! The Margaritas are phenomenal! Service is exceptional and the mood is nice.

Good food, really like the pork burrito. Small local place, not cheap price but reasonable.

Good food, friendly service but they charge you now if you ask for more chips. Prices are reasonable and the servings are large.

We've eaten here a few times and I've never had a bad meal. The food has wonderful flavors and is authentic Mexican food. This isn't Taco Bell kids! The restaurant is always very clean, clean bathrooms and the service is excellent. If you are in BD and craving Mexican look no further then La Tapatia!

Very good Mexican food. Lots of chorizo in the chorizo queso dip. Margaritas that actually have BOOZE in them is always a plus. However a little pricey for what it is.

Been there twice now and both experiences were nice. The rundown: - Friendly folks - Fast service - Cheap drinks. On that note, the margaritas are not that great flavor wise. They are just OK but they definitely have a kick. So if you are going for a buzz they will do. - The highlight is absolutely the food. Agreed with previous comments, the food is authentic and tastes great. I was especially impressed by the carnitas. The flavor of the pork was outstanding. To sum up, yep will definitely be back when craving Mexican food.

Delicious food with fast and friendly service. I would say it's the best Mexican food I've had in Wisconsin and rates high on my nation-wide list :). Everything I've tried has been delicious. Their chicken is always really tender and they have this creamy Monterey sauce that is amazing!

Well coming from a household filled with Mexican's, this food was less than sub par. The salsa was VERY bland, and the remaining flavor was drowned out by overabundance of cilantro. No onion present in the salsa, which contributed to the blandness. The chips had lots of burned flecks on them, and had a very burned taste-commonly caused by unchanged fryer oil and leaving the chips in for too long. (I was a restaurant manager myself, I know what old fryer looks and tastes like) Our server was less than friendly, and did not make eye contact with me, my husband or my mother. I'm not sure which was worse-his English or his Spanish. I tried in both languages, as did my husband, but the server mumbled so much, that whatever he said was virtually inaudible. When I tried to order the scallops and shrimp, I asked what was in the special sauce, and everyone at the table first thought he said "guacamole", but after 2 more attempts, it turned out it was "like mole". I'm not a huge fan of mole, so I asked for no sauce and a side of guacamole since it wasn't listed on the dish on the menu. He brought the guacamole, which turned out be some form of avocado paste. That too was bland, and the guacamole was missing onion, cilantro and tomato. IT WAS HORRIBLE! My husband, who is Mexican found it hilarious that they tried to pass that off as guacamole. The server delivered our food, and then the next set of issues came up. The food was out of order, and no one received the correct tortillas, and no where did it say that shrimp and scallions came topped with guacamole, which was that horrid excuse-that bland boxed mess of avocado paste. The rice the seafood was served on was over cooked and mush. The cilantro, tomato, and onion had melted cheese on top, so now the veggies were warm-ish (soggy, GROSS!), and then that was served on top of a bed of lettuce with a wad of that nasty green paste beneath it. It was not what the menu described, at all. We have eaten MANY times at the location in Fond Du Lac, and we will never make the mistake of coming to this location again. Our server never returned to ask us how our food was. After everyone else was halfway into their meal, and the server hadn't returned so that I could ask for a new plate without that avocado-green-goo on it, I was through with this location. I was never able to take a bite, and I was so livid at the lack of service and terrible food that I waited in the car for the remained of the meal while my husband and mother finished and picked through their burned fajitas. The vegetables in my mother's and husband's fajita were very small, and grilled to the point of being burnt along all the edges and then very thin as all the water and nutrients in them was cooked out. The fajitas were burned scraps of meat, over cooked rubber shrimp, and burned splinters of what used to be vegetables. No one had leftovers other than me, obviously since I did not want the plate they served me. Thankfully, my husband is patient and scrapped all the green-goo-avocado paste off it and will be eating just the seafood for lunch, with real guacamole that includes the proper ingredients, and homemade salsa, that has salt and flavor. GO TO THE FOND DU LAC LOCATION! This location is not worth the money or time.

I was skeptical, even with three previous good reviews. What do Wisconsin people know from Mexican food, right??? Well, I'm eating my words, along with a FANTASTIC chile relleno (the benchmark by which all Mexican restaurants should be measured). It was served with an enchilada-type sauce rather than a ranchero sauce, but was pretty much a ten. Great service, good chips and salsa (order pico de gallo to mix with their regular salsa). Heaven, hundreds of miles from San Diego.

Great authentic mexican food! They have some tex-mex favorites, but the menu seems to thrive on authentic Mexican food. The prices are low and fair. The margaritas are especially cheap. I had the tacos and they were authentic street style tacos, meaning double corn tortilla with onions and cilnatro and lime, no cheese or sour cream. The rice was great! Lots of comfy seating, welcome interior and friendly service.

By far the best Mexican restaurant in Beaver Dam. Had dinner there last night, they cater well to vegetarians, the service is awesome and the pace was great. We've eaten there many times and it's a consistently good experience as well :)

Wow... this place was AWESOME. One night after work we decided to come here. Looked good... WAS AMAZING. Very amazing service, food was out in less then 5 mins, and a Margarita the size of my face. I can't say enough good things.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
